Sweden's Curling Dynasty Continues at Milano Cortina
MILANO, ITALY, March 7, 2026 — In a triumph that cemented their status as Olympic curling legends, Team Sweden claimed their fourth women's curling gold medal at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics with a nail-biting 6-5 victory over host-favorite Switzerland in Sunday's final.
A Mother's Dedication
The victory came from skip Anna Hasselborg, who gave birth to her second child in 2023 — yet returned to the ice to make history. After her rink matched their triumphant performance at Pyeongchang 2018, Hasselborg became only the second woman after Anette Norberg to win two Olympic titles as skip.
"I'm so proud to give them that because they are such a big part of this journey. Without them it wouldn't have happened," Hasselborg told Olympics.com, dedicating her gold medal to her daughter Mira and son August.
The "Circus" Team
During the Games, Hasselborg joked that her team, once just four athletes, had grown into a "circus" of children and family members on tour. Indeed, three members of her rink gave birth in this Olympic cycle — Hasselborg, Sara McManus, and Agnes Knochenhauer. Sofia Scharback completed the gold-medal team, and all four have now won three Olympic medals together.
A Tight Final
The final against Switzerland was a masterclass in tension and skill. Sweden opened with a two in the first end, but Switzerland drew level at 3-3 by the sixth. The match's turning point came in the eighth end when Silvana Tirinzoni missed a crucial shot, conceding a steal that put Sweden ahead 5-3 with the hammer. Though Switzerland scored two in the ninth, Hasselborg claimed her point in the 10th end for a hard-fought 6-5 victory.
It capped a memorable Games for Sweden, with the Wranå brothers and sister Rasmus, Isabella, and their mixed doubles team also claiming gold.
