In a move that could reshape border security dynamics in the Middle East, Israeli defense technology company IAI unveiled Monday a cutting‑edge armed autonomous drone designed to operate alongside ground troops on volatile borders. The unmanned vehicle, dubbed "Guardium", is equipped with advanced AI navigation and target identification systems capable of operating in complex urban environments.
According to IAI spokesperson Rani Avni, Guardium will be deployed across the northern West Bank, southern Gaza Strip, and the Israeli‑Palestinian border in 2026. The system is expected to enhance rapid response times and reduce risk to soldiers by taking over routine surveillance tasks.
"Guardium represents a new era of autonomous support for ground forces," said Avni. "Its AI-driven target recognition allows it to operate safely in contested zones without human intervention, improving both operational efficiency and troop safety."
